Abakisimba Musical Troupe is an ensemble of percussionists, poets, musicians and dancers from different ethnic backgrounds in Kenya. This, as well as our instruments, is what makes the group unique in their compositions. They play exclusively kenyan drums (Mbumbumbum, Ahangla drum…) mixed with other instruments, making it a rich cultural fusion.
Under the patronage of their Master Drummer who is a former member of Jabali Afrika.
The Kenya Cultural Centre in Nairobi was the home base for the group and where they started their first listening, lerning and practising sessions „Percussion Discussion“.
AbakiSimba is composed of no less than 14 musicians of diverse talents. They have performed at various events & venues, including Alchemist (Nairobi), Sondeka Festival, Sawa Sawa Festival, Santuri Festival, Beneath the Baobab Festival and many more. Studio & live collaborations with Makadem, SURAJ, Dylan S., DJ Mura, Udulele, Max Doblhoff, DJ Lasta, Bengatronics, Disco Vumbi, Umoja, Music from East Africa and many more from the international electronic music scene.
Apart from live performances, they do workshops and music programs in order to spread the cultural diversity in Kenya and abroad, which is part of Eco-tourism and cultural exchange.
